The Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program is one of three federal immigration programs managed by Express Entry, and it is one of the most popular. Like all Express Entry programs, the Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to evaluate applicants, inviting only the most competitive persons to submit a Canadian permanent resident status application.
Each year, skilled workers account for more than half of all new immigrants admitted to Canada under economic programs such as the Federal Skilled Trades Program. For skilled craftsmen who satisfy the standards, the FST program can be a fast track to Canadian permanent residency and the right to live and work in Canada permanently for those who meet the conditions.

Requirements
To be eligible for FST, candidates must have completed at least two years of full-time work in a skilled trade (or an equal amount in part-time). This experience must have been gained within the last five years and includes only work experience after an individual has been awarded certification to practice the trade in their country of residence.
